Migraines affect about 12% of the United States population, or on average, one in four households. If you suffer from this prevalent illness, you need a solution. At Advanced Relief Institute in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, double board-certified anesthesiologist and interventional pain management physician, Dr. Neel Amin, leads our team in expert treatment, management, and care for all patients with migraines. You may be surprised to learn that Botox® treats more than just cosmetic purposes like diminishing the appearance of your wrinkles, but it can also treat your migraines.

How Botox works for migraines

Botox is an FDA-approved neurotoxin that’s purified and delivered in very small doses to weaken the contractions of your muscles where we inject the treatment. When we administer Botox, you should experience relief from your migraines for about three months.

The beauty of Botox for migraines is that it can actually stop migraines before they develop. When we inject it into your nerve endings, it blocks the release of pain activation in your brain, so it stops your migraine before it can even start.

This treatment is approved for adults ages 18 and over.

What to expect during treatment

Your procedure with our team lasts up to 20 minutes. You sit comfortably in a chair in our friendly environment while we administer your injections.

The treatment involves using a tiny needle to inject the Botox that you should barely feel. Depending on the severity of your headaches and the area that they occur, we can deliver between 30-40 shots into the surface area to give you effective results. We administer the shots to your head and neck.

During your consultation with us, we learn about the pain points where you’re affected and treat those areas. After your treatment, if you have any soreness, simply put an ice pack on the places where we gave you the shots.

After 12 weeks, you should schedule another appointment to keep your migraines away or to at least prevent the severity of them.

When will I feel results?

After your first treatment, you should experience results within four weeks. As you continue treatments, your quality of life should escalate significantly because of the overall reduction in your headache symptoms.

We recommend you come into our office every 12 weeks for Botox treatment to experience continued, positive results.
